WinOF 2.0 is almost ready for prime time

Recently, the OpenFabrics LWG (Legal Working Group) revised the WinOF Contributor Agreement to make it simpler for more organizations and vendors to join the Windows Working Group (WWG).  Indeed, we have seen a significant increase in participation and code contribution from vendors such as Intel, Mellanox, Microsoft, QLogic, Voltaire and many others.  This increases the code reviews, testing and qualification, and enables faster development.

The release of WinOF 2.0 is coming fast and will include support for Windows Server 2008, Windows HPC Server 2008 (with support for Network Direct) and Vista. The periodic code builds that are the base for WinOF 2.0 are well tested on large-scale systems (more than 1100 CPUs) to achieve the required stability, robustness and performance for enterprise-class and high-performance applications.

One emphasis for WinOF 2.0 is performance optimization in each of its components. For clustering applications, WinOF 2.0 provides better MPI performance and supports multiple MPI versions, such as Microsoft, Intel and HP MPIs. For socket and management applications, TCP stateless-offloads were added to IPoIB. SRP robustness was greatly improved, providing high-bandwidth options for storage applications.

WinOF 2.0 is planned to be released by the end of September and will be available for download from  www.openfabrics.org/downloads/WinOF.  Previous releases from the WWG can also be found at www.openfabrics.org/downloads/WinOF.
