Why Create an Abstract Fabric Manager?
Composable distributed computing systems are capable of being assembled using multiple brands and types of fabric interfaces. To manage fabrics, an understanding of the potential connections must be gathered. Each fabric must be initialized, evaluated, cap
abilities, and potential routes and connections must be provided to potential clients. As connections are made in a composable system each connection needs to be inventoried, in a dynamic fashion.
Unfortunately, current fabric management involves manipulating fabric networks using tools and methods that are specific to the fabric type and manufacturer. The OFMF provides a common set of abstracted tools that take advantage of 'commonalities' in all network fabrics. Thus, composing disaggregated compute systems becomes much easier and management, telemetry, and versatility is provided to client applications.
