The OpenFabrics Alliance Launches Sunfish™ to Provide an Open-Source Approach for Composable Disaggregated Infrastructure Management

The OpenFabrics Alliance (OFA) is excited to announce the launch of OFA Sunfish™ – an open-source framework to help simplify the development of Composable Disaggregated Infrastructure (CDI) cloud and HPC architectures. Formerly the OpenFabrics Management Framework (OFMF), the Sunfish project is a collaboration between the OFA and its partners the CXL™ Consortium, DMTF, and SNIA to provide elements of an overall solution to address limits on provisioning and computational efficiency, hardware operating costs, and energy consumption of integrated and siloed systems.

Using DMTF Redfish® and SNIA Swordfish™ manageability to provide a standards-based interface, Sunfish is designed to configure fabric interconnects and manage composable disaggregated heterogeneous hardware resources in dynamic datacenter infrastructures using client-friendly abstractions.

As a new open-source composable computing system framework, Sunfish offers a unified set of tools to control and monitor computing resources accessed over multiple network fabric types. With Sunfish, clients will have the ability to interact with distributed resources and connect fabrics to automate orchestration and maintain large-scale parallel and distributed computing systems.

Visit the Sunfish page on our website to learn more about the industry’s efforts around Sunfish and to access valuable details on Use Cases and how to get stated.

Sunfish makes a splash at SNIA Storage Developer Conference (SDC’23)

At the recent SDC’23 – held September 18-21 in Fremont, CA – Russ Herrell of member company HPE presented on Sunfish and how it plays an important part in helping the industry overcome the challenges of running composable disaggregated infrastructures.

If you were unable to attend SDC’23, keep an eye on the SNIA YouTube Channel to view a recording of the session, “Sunfish Open Source Management for Composable Disaggregated Infrastructures”, for a deep-dive on Sunfish as well as a live demonstration of the Sunfish reference implementation.

More on tap for OFA and Sunfish at Supercomputing Conference 2023 (SC’23)

The OFA is excited to once again participate in the Open Standards Pavilion at SC’23 – taking place November 12-17 in Denver, CO. Experts will be on hand at the kiosk to showcase a demo of Sunfish and discuss other OFA initiatives such as the Fabric Software Development Platform (FSDP) and OpenFabrics Interfaces (OFI).

Furthermore, the OFA will have a representative presenting on Sunfish at both the BUG23 and RESDIS23 during the week of SC23.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
