Working Groups Overview

Below is a list of all of the working groups and their respective mailing lists within the OpenFabrics Alliance. You must subscribe to the lists at lists.openfabrics.org prior to posting to the lists. Please do not post before joining.

Board

The OFA Board conducts the essential business of the OFA. The Board meets one Thursday a month and the Executive Work Group meets the other Thursdays. OFA public documents such as meeting minutes are stored here, along with folders for specific projects.

Marketing Working Group (MWG)

OFA Marketing Working Group charter is to promote the benefits of OFA and accelerate the adoption of existing and emerging advanced fabric technologies. It oversees the marketing, promotional, and event activities of the OpenFabrics Alliance. Communications through the MWG is done using the OpenFabrics list server (lists.openfabrics.org). You can join the MWG list by visiting the list server.

The MWG meets every two weeks on Thursday. Meeting information can be found the OFA calendar and also through the reminders and agendas announced through direct email contact.

OpenFabrics Interfaces Working Group (OFIWG)

The OpenFabrics Interfaces Working Group (OFIWG) is committed to key objectives:

  • Developing, testing, and distributing an extensible, open source framework that provides access to high-performance fabric interfaces and services.
  • Extensible, open source interfaces aligned with ULP and application needs for high-performance fabric services. The OFIWG is open to anyone interested in working on these objectives.

Communications through the OFIWG is done using the OpenFabrics list server (lists.openfabrics.org). You can join the OFIWG list by visiting the list server. Fabric Software Development Platform Working Group (FSDPWG)

The FSDPWG delivers on the OFA’s mission to accelerate the development and adoption of advanced fabrics for the benefit of the advanced network ecosystems. It accomplishes this by providing and managing a cluster, and accompanying software infrastructure to:

  • Provide continuous integration testing for the Linux open source community
  • Allow on-demand access for clients, including hardware vendors and distros
  • Offer an optional logo program for hardware vendors and distros

Usage will be subject to the “FSDP Acceptable Use Policy.”

Formal Group Management

The FSDPWG meets periodically, which is announced through the list service and shown on the OFA Calendar. Group management communications is conducted through the FSDPWG list.

OpenFabrics Management Framework Working Group (OFMFWG)

The OFMFWG’s charter is to create an OpenFabrics Management Framework to develop, test, and distribute:

  • An extensible, open source framework that provides access to high-performance fabric management interfaces and services
  • Extensible, open source interfaces aligned with orchestration and workload management application needs for high-performance fabric management services

Inactive Working Groups

The following working groups are no longer active. You may join their mailing lists or view the archives if available. There are no moderators for these lists, and your emails may go without response.

Enterprise Working Group (EWG)

The Enterprise Working Group (EWG) qualifies and tests OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) for Linux code prior to distribution to ensure robustness and applicability for commercial usage. The EWG is open to anyone interested in OFED for enterprise Linux applications.

OpenFabrics Verbs Working Group (OFVWG)

The OpenFabrics Verbs Working Group oversees the development of verbs definition and functionality in the OpenFabrics Software (OFS) code.

Interoperability Working Group (IWG)

The Interoperability Working Group (IWG) within the OFA conducted interoperability testing in partnership with the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab (UNH IOL). Software, server, storage and network vendors, OEMs and Systems Integrators whose products support and utilize OFED participate in a transparent process that allows other OFA members to observe all tests.   • Product Testing Certification BadgeProducts that pass these tests are granted the right to use the OFA Interoperability Trademark, providing they have a license for its use.
  • Test results for all products that earn the OFA Interoperability Trademark are available to the public here.
  • Please consult the OFA’s logo program documentation and OFA Logo Agreement for permission and guidelines for using the Interoperability Trademark.

Specifications

The specifications for InfiniBand, RoCE, iWARP, and NVMe are maintained by various organizations separate from the OFA.

  • The InfiniBand Trade Association (www.infinibandta.org) maintains the InfiniBand and RoCE specifications.
  • The Internet Engineering Task Force maintains the iWARP Specification.
  • NVMExpress.org maintains the NVMe specification.

Interoperability Test plan

The OFA recognizes the need for the interoperability test effort to be industry-wide, where testing is conducted under the auspices of the appropriate networking organizations.

  • The InfiniBand Trade Association (www.infinibandta.org) CIWG is responsible for InfiniBand compliance and interoperability testing on cables and devices.
  • The OFA IWG is responsible for Interoperability testing on InfiniBand, iWARP and RoCE products based on OFA Software (OFED).
  • The OFA-IWG Interoperability Test Plan and related documents describe the production tests step by step.
  • Overview of the OpenFabrics Alliance Interoperability Logo Program (OFILP) describes the goals of the OFILP, the structure of the collaboration between OFA and UNH-IOL and provides a technical overview of the interoperability test procedures, scope and logistics of testing events and participation, logo grant and usage guidelines, and finally looks at some logo usage scenarios and benefits.

Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)

The TAC researched and identified strategic technology initiatives for the Alliance. The TAC was formed in 2010 to focus on OFED and emerging data center requirements including virtualization, cloud, and energy efficiency. Members of this group include senior technologists from OFA member companies. You can subscribe to the TAC list, but it must be approved by a co-chair.

Windows Working Group (OFW)

The OFED for Windows Working Group (OFW) qualified and tested OFED for Windows code prior to distribution to ensure robustness and applicability for commercial usage. The OFW is open to anyone interested in OFED for enterprise Windows applications.
